History of Department for skill Development

1950 (B.E. 2493) :
The Division of Labour under the Department of Public Welfare,Ministry ofInterior was set
up according to the Royal Decree.

1965 (B.E. 2508) :
Department of Labour under the Ministry of Interior was set up.

1966 (B.E. 2509) :
The classification of divisions in the Department was categorized into 5 divisions; Secretariat to the Department, Division of Employment, Division of Occupational Development, Division of Technical Studies and Labour Statistic and Division of Labour Protection and Relation.

1973 (B.E. 2516) :
The Division of Occupational Development was restructured as the Institute forSkill Development under the Department of Labour, Ministry of Interior.

1992 (B.E. 2539) :
The Department of Labour was restructured as the Department of SkillDevelopment under the Ministry of Interior.

1993 (B.E. 2536) :
According to the setting up of the new ministry. The Department of SkillDevelopment has designated to be under the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare.

2002-present (B.E. 2545-present) :
According to the government reform, the Ministry was changed its name as the Ministry of Labour, the Department of Skill Development still belongs to the Ministry of Labour and also in charge of skill development scheme.




Vi s i o n

Be the core organization to carry out the particular schemes related to skill development coordination and promotion for enhancing labour forceûs potential to exist as the unique, productive relevant to international standard and competitive for the high competition in the world market.


Re s p o n s i b i l i t y

1. To develop skill standards to meet the international standards and to promote the conducting of skill testing and skill competition.

2. To conduct skill training and develop skill development system.

3. To promote skill development by enhancing labour forceûs potential in being the entrepreneur.

4. To promote the cooperation among government and private sectors in terms of the setting up of National Plan in skill demand and the establishment of skill development network.

5. To proceed any matters regarding to the legal procedure for skill development promotion.

6. To promote and create skill development networking both at in-country and international level.

7. To carry out other assignments according to the authorization, stated by law, or the cabinet.
